The Babbage Institute for Knowledge and Information Technology was founded in 1985 in order to define the research needs and to realise the solutions for Flemish industry in the field of advanced knowledge- and information technology (KIT).
Communication & Cognition is an international scientific society founded in 1968 with members all over the world. The society promotes and stimulates interdisciplinary research. To attain this goal the society publishes a.o. the journal COMMUNICATION AND COGNITION. Communication & Cognition is an international interdisciplinary journal focusing on the interrelations between Communication and Cognition in fields such as artificial intelligence, anthropology, (applied) epistemology, history, linguistics, logic, methodology of science, pedagogy, psychology and related disciplines. search notes, book reviews and letters to the editor.
The Co-VAR project targets the domain of Complex Systems Engineering through the conceptualisation of a Co-operative VAR (Co-VAR) architecture which will be used by platform developers. These developers will construct the VAR-development platform so that VAR-application developers in group can produce VAR-applications in co-operation with content providers and application exploiters.
Beside themes from pure epistemology, a lot of attention is being paid to applied epistemology. This last part is subdivided into: 1. artificial systems, 2. individual systems and 3. social systems. There is also interest in the historical dimension in each of these areas.. As for the artificial systems and applied epistemology, a great deal of attention is being given to virtual and augmented reality, learning systems and, in particular, neural networks. As for domains 2 and 3, we are also paying a great deal of attention to the learning individual, the company and the learning society (including the philosophy of sciences, specifically for biology and psycho-analysis).
The SARTON chair was founded to give expression to the Sarton spirit of research. History and Philosophy of the sciences is not a luxury for the scientist, but a genuine breeding pool of inspiration. It is true they are specialisations, as all sciences are, but they also contribute to the human knowledge, to the progress of mankind, to the development of the sciences in general and most and for all to their internal integration as well as to the integration in the human lifestyle and culture.
The most interactive and interesting issue about classical Islamic economy, is find out the creative and stimulating bound which can compare the old Islamic concept of economy through out creativity and the Islamic mentality with different Islamic culture. This islamic culture has been taking another direction through his adaptation and melting with new systems, law and principles of western cultures. Through practical research and scientific study, we will try to understand the economic policy of the Islamic bank, Musaraka, Mudarabaand Murabaha as basis conceptions of the islamic bank.
This forum devotes itself to the study and research in the field of the relation between knowledge (religious and philosophical) and culture in the Islamic world. It aims not only at the historical, hypothetic-deductive and deconstructive analyses of the specific field of learning, but will also make ample use of the methods of discursive and transformatical analysis (cfr. N. Fairclough:'Discours and social change' - 1992; 'Critical discourse analysis: the critical study of language' - 1995) and in particular of those of the 'knowledge audit' (F. Vandamme: 'Kennisaudit' - 1999; 'Knowledge Modelling' - 1993). Those objectives are not only to be structurally developed synchronically as well as diachronically, but also futuro-chronically (from the future), covering a wide range of topics on Islamic religion and philosophy and its knowledge fields.
Our preoccupation and our research will be directed towards the Muslim minorities in Belgium. This means the watching of the diverse social phenomenon, and their evolution, of those minorities both in a near and more distant future, following them in their different observable phases. Those notations and analyses will take into account the diversities of cultural and social Muslim organisations while taking certain measurements allowing to obtain ideas about the efficiency of the working of these organisations within the belgian society, also taking into account the daily life participation in the social, cultural, politic and scientific fields.

"The quarterly journal, CC-AI, publishes articles and book reviews relating to the evolving principles and techniques of Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Sciences and Applied Epistemology. It contains technical, theoretical as well as overview articles within these areas, frequently enriched by research in such fields as mathematics, linguistics, logic, epistemology, biology. It provides a forum for discussion of such topics as expert system development, AI-languages, machine architecture and user interfaces, robotics, cognitive modelling, Fregean and non-Fregean inference systems, knowledge acquisition and representation, natural language processing, knowledge driven CAD/CAM, vision, image processing, connectionism, virtual and augmented reality, ... Furthermore, CC-AI is concerned with developments in the areas of hard- and software and their applications within AI."
